Diana María Arias B.
Colombian resident in the city of Buenos Aires (Argentina), where for the last 14 years she has actively participated in the local scene playing and recording with musicians such as Ernesto Jodos, Diego Schissi, Adrián Iaies, Juan Cruz de Urquiza, Yamile Burich, Mariano Loiácono, Julia Moscardini among many other artists. And in concerts and international festivals such as: National Arts Festival (South Africa- 2019), Jazz Plaza (Cuba-2019), Ushuaia World Music International Festival 2019, Barranquijazz and AJazzGo (Colombia 2017), as well as several editions of the Buenos Aires International Jazz Festival (2015 – 2019).
She grew up in a family of musicians, thanks to this she has had a vast journey through different musical styles, as a child she integrated the children’s salsa orchestra “La charanguita”, with which she traveled through Colombia, Holland and Germany. She also integrated the female salsa orchestra D’Caché with whom she traveled through several countries accompanying the renowned singer Gilberto Santa Rosa. She participated as Supernumerary musician for three years in the Orquesta Filarmónica del Valle (Colombia, 2007-2009). Among other projects and groups that she integrated in her homeland.
She graduated from the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Manuel de Falla” in the “Tecnicatura Superior en Jazz – especialidad contrabajo” (2010-2013), and from the Conservatorio “Antonio María Valencia” – Bellas Artes (Colombia) as “Maestra en interpretación musical con énfasis en contrabajo” with Laureate Mention to the degree recital. She participated in the “residencies” of masters Barry Altschul and Dave Douglas (“Usina del Arte”-Buenos Aires- 2017-2018). She also attended master classes and workshops with masters Linda May Han Oh, Vijay Iyer, Yosvany Terry, Okkyung Lee, Mimi Jones (Canada-2019), William Parker (2019), Jeff Bradetich (U.S.A-2008), Klaus Stoll (Honduras-2007) and Iván Peña (Colombia), among others.
She has performed in different venues such as the CCK and La Usina del Arte accompanying in special concerts, artists from different fields such as: André Mehmari, Roxana Amed, Diego Schissi, Loli Molina, Mariana Baraj, Carolina Cohen, Ernesto Snajer, among many others.
Winner of the scholarship for the “Encuentro Argentino de Improvisación y Composición” awarded by the Fondo Nacional de las Artes 2013 and 2015. Selected for the “Workshop in jazz & Creative Music 2019” at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, (Canada).
She has worked as a teacher of his instrument in the Orquestas Escuelas Infanto-Juveniles de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, besides having directed the Ensamble de Salsa at the NEMPLA school (2014-2015) and the workshop “Salsa y otros ritmos Latinos” at La Usina del Arte (2019) – Argentina.
She currently forms a trio of his own compositions under his own name with renowned musicians Ernesto Jodos and Sergio Verdinelli, with whom she recorded her album “Viaje del Pez”, she is also part of Adrián Iaies & Colegiales trio and also works as a double bass teacher.
